puter system to allow review of the
records as a digital image instead of providing the actual
papers. The information collected as part of the database and
recorded on the new file folders will be included with the
digital images allowing researchers to quickly determine the
need to review a file. Once scanned the images would also be
available on the Library of Virginia web site, allowing greater
availability to researchers across the country. The actual
papers, however, would still be available in some circumstances
for historical research purposes in the Clerk’s Office.
In 2007, Loudoun County will celebrate its
250th anniversary. Through the historic records maintained in
the Clerk’s Office present day citizens have a window
into the past not available elsewhere. By investing time and
resources to perform this preservation work now, the
Clerk’s Office is guaranteeing that future generations
will have the same opportunity that we have today to enjoy
these records.
