training school and the one room schools in the county. He served as chair of the King William Training and Hamilton-Holmes High School PTA for a number of years.
He was a member of the King William NAACP.
He was named an honorary member of Mangohick Volunteer Fire Department. He initiated the first book rental system by soliciting funds from the black churches in King William County.
Upon retirement from the board of supervisors, in 1999, a newly constructed building housing the county’s social Services and health departments was dedicated: the Leroy T. McAllister Sr. Human Services Building. VR

He served on the King William Planning Commission for 30 years, and served 26 years as the cochair of the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission. He worked on the King William County Tricentennial Committee. He was instrumental
in naming Hamilton-Holmes High School. He also ensured that the new elementary school would have a campus style design to replace the old
