CITY OF COLONIAL HEIGHTS: Police Officer Eric Allen is the fifth recipient of the Colonial Heights Customer Service Employee of the Year Award, according to City Manager Robert E. “Bob” Taylor.  In February, 2003 the police department’s communications department received a call for help at an old rock quarry.  Several officers responded to find an 11 year old girl who had slipped down an icy 20 foot embankment into the frozen water below.  When Officer Allen arrived at the scene, he saw the father of the victim run through the woods to her aid and also fall into the water.  Officer Allen grabbed a tree trunk while jumping into the water and assisted the girl and her father out of the water.  After bystanders helped the two victims to a waiting ambulance, they were transported to a local hospital.  They had hypothermia and multiple abrasions on their lower bodies and limbs, but were otherwise in good condition.  For more information call Bob Taylor at (804) 520-9265 or www.colonial-heights.com.

HENRICO COUNTY: Longtime Henrico County Staff member Jane C. Klosky has won the fourth annual Excellence in Public Service Award.  This award recognizes a general government employee who demonstrates and exemplifies outstanding public service on a routine, consistent basis.  Nominees are chosen by their coworkers; only one of Henrico’s more than 3,600 general government employees receives the award each year.  She has been on the staff since 1978 and currently serves as senior human resources manager in the human resources department.  She has played a key role in the development and advancement of numerous technology projects, including the management and personnel system, personnel information system, and the job opportunities source for Henrico.  All these dramatically enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of county operations while simultaneously making the county more customer friendly for both residents and employees.  [] Antoinette V.
