ARLINGTON COUNTY: The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) elected Arlington County Supervisor Jay Fisette to head its board of directors. The Metropolitan Council of Governments is the association of 19 local governments working together for a better metropolitan region. District of Columbia Mayor Anthony A. Williams and Montgomery County Councilmember Michael Knapp are now vice chairs. Jay Fisette has served on the Arlington County Board of Supervisors since 1997. BOWLING GREEN: Glen Wood, most recently the Bowling Green Town Manager resigned in November. On January 3, Stephen H. Manster, most recently the executive director of the RADCO Planning District Commission, was hired to take the Bowling Green Town Manager position. BRUNSWICK COUNTY: Assistant Brunswick County Administrator Tammy W. Newcomb is interim county administrator. She succeeds Jerry Vincent, who took the position of Emporia City Manager. For more information call Tammy Newcomb at (434) 848-3107.
COLONIAL BEACH: John C. Barkley, formerly Dumfries Town Manager, is the new Colonial Beach Town Manager. For more information call John Barkley at (804) 224-7181.
COVINGTON: Former Covington City Manager John Holpe has taken the position as Spring Hope, North Carolina Town Manager. For more information call (540) 965-6300.
CRAIG COUNTY: Craig County Administrator Larry Moore resigned from that position in December. He had completed two years of service there, and was the fourth county administrator in less than three years. Richard Flora was appointed to succeed him.

DEQ: Tammy Stephenson, former Alleghany County Administrator, has been hired at the Department of Environmental Quality Roanoke office. Hers is a new position in the water supply planning division, and will work with the localities that are under the jurisdiction of the DEQ West Central Regional Office. She’ll work with helping those localities meet state water mandates, and will also help them with applying for and managing grants. For more information contact Tammy Stephenson at (540) 562-6700.
DHR: Scott Arnold with the Department of Historic Resources Historic Highway Marker Program announced a new marker for William Moore, Tidewater Musician in Tappahannock. Born in 1893, he was recorded by paramount in Chicago in 1928 and released eight songs, some of the earliest by an African American folk performer from Virginia.
