Town Manager, quit to work for NASA. And officials in the town of Hurt were recently in
the news when their former town manager, Linda East, was indicted on one count of misappropriation
of funds, a Class 4 felony. She had spent more than 30 years working for the town, starting in 1974 as clerk and treasurer.
  s we networked with new acquaintances and renewed friendships with others at this summer’s Virginia Local Government Management Association (VLGMA) meeting, we realized there are a lot of changes going on in Virginia. Since Richmond voters overwhelmingly issued a mandate for change that included a strong mayor form of government, every week there are announcements from city hall that a whole cadre of long timers are history. Going through the press releases of just the last couple of months, the rest of folks coming and going seems accelerated to us.
William Johnson, who was Prince George County Finance Director, then county administrator, was hired in Richmond to be the deputy city manager by Calvin Jamison, then the city manager. When Calvin and the Police Chief Andre Parker were let go by Mayor Doug Wilder, William was one of those to start the exodus. He was hired by King George County to be the deputy county administrator. In a very short period of time, he announced he had taken a job in College Park Georgia. King George Administrator Dennis Kerns, who had announced his retirement, has now decided to stay on the job until they can find his successor.
