FAIRFAX COUNTY: The Fairfax County Electoral Board appointed General Registrar Jacquelynne Harris in June. Known as Jackie, she has over 14 years of experience in the field of voter registration and election administration having served as the General Registrar and Deputy Registrar in Albemarle County. She received her Certified Professional General Registrar accreditation from the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service in 2000. APVA: Historic Richmond Foundation and the William Byrd Branch of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (APVA) have announced their merger. The surviving entity will conduct business as Historic Richmond Foundation and will be part of the APVA Preservation Virginia organization. BEDFORD: The Bedford Area Welcome Center now operates its summer hours from 9am to 7pm daily. According to Bedford Tourism Director Nanci Drake, “now, 6pm is like 3pm in the afternoon for travelers. Our primary mission is to offer the best service possible to our visitors and being available to serve guests during the times that are convenient to them is paramount.” Three RV/Camper stations at the visitors center are now fully operational and offer travelers full service electricity, water, and dumping or convenience stations for overnight stays. The Bedford Area Welcome Center is conveniently located at the junction of Highway 460 and 122 and is operated by the Bedford City and County Department of Tourism. DHR: The Virginia Department of Historic Resources released news that 14 historical highway markers have been approved for sites as diverse as Virginia State University in Chesterfield County, the first African American
