Good News! Finally!

The Virginia review Directory of State and Local Government is now available as an online publication. We have completed posting the entire 450+ page directory as downloadable and printable PDFs. It is also indexed and accessible for quick lookups and research. All of the information in the former print version is on line. Because we don’t have the physical constraints of print we will be adding additional information as well.

There are some loose ends that may take a week or two to clean up, but all the information files are ready to go. To get log on information and subscription status click on the Directory tab above. That will take you to Directory information and all the other things you need to know.

With this change to the Directory, we have made another to the magazine. We have been totally committed to getting the Directory up and the magazine has lagged. Now we are catching this up and making changes as well.

The Virginia Review Magazine is now FREE. There will no longer be any charge or login required and all are welcome. The archive research section will accessible through the Directory login.

How this all came about. When we began advertising and subscription sales we soon realized that due to the recession we were in trouble. Advertising and subscription sales were far below normal. Most advertisers deferred their decisions until budgets came out and subscribers deferred their renewals. At the end of the day we did not have enough revenue to publish the Directory. We realized that the only hope was to go online. We had completed most of the research so the content was done but there was no money for typesetting and printing. Rather than throw in the towel and give up, several folks agreed to work for nothing and put the Directory on line. All of us had other jobs so this was a nights and weekends deal. Everyone pretty much put in the equivalent of full time to get this done. We didn’t answer mail, return phone calls, or process emails, or faxes. We apologize for this and we be reconnecting as quickly as possible.

We are changing our email as well. Our current email addresses are nearly useless. We are getting hundreds of spam messages daily. Too often we lose good email in the mess. We have adopted Gmail, it works great and NO spam. We are using two email addresses for the business, virginareview@gmail.com for regular stuff and vareviewads@gmail.com for advertising. If you feel you need to, you can email me personally at roger.habeck@gmail.com . We will keep the other email addresses for a while but no longer than necessary. Give me a couple of weeks for the dust to settle and drop me a line.
